Plantago lanceolata; The Ribwort Plantain is very rare on Iceland except for one region in the south (south of the Eyafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers) where it is quite common. It grows on fertile soils, often disturbed by human activities. Apparently it prefers warmer conditions. In northrn regions it is known to grow on thermal soils. It supperficially resembles the sea plantain. However, the leaf-structures are vey different: smooth and thick in the sea plantain; ribbbed by veins and thin in the ribwort plantain.
It is a member of the plantain family Plantaginaceae. The Icelandic name of this species is Selgresi.
