FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Trifolium pratense, Red Clover, Rauðsmári

Trifolium pratense; the red clover has been introduced on Iceland. It grows on relative lush grasslands. It is not wide spread on Iceland: apart from some larger areas in the north (valleys and lowlands), it only grows on specific localities like farms. It is a member of the Pea family (Fabaceae formerly known as Papilionaceae. The Icelandic name of this species is Rauðsmári.
