FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Saxifraga cotyledon, Pyramidal Saxifrage, Klettarfrú

Saxifraga cotyledon; The Pyramidal Saxifrage is a conspicuous saxifrage. It has an erect multi-flowered stem from a basal rosette. S. paniculata (silver saxifrage) is quite similar but has the flowers more tightly grouped at the top where the pyramidal saxifrage has loosely arranged flowers. There is a difference in leaves of the basal rosette too. S. cotyledon has smooth-margined leaves where S. paniculata has light-coloured teeth on the leaf margins. S. cotyledon is found only in eastern Iceland (east from Vik). S. paniculata is found in eastern Iceland and some area's of western Iceland. It is member of the saxifrage family (Saxifragaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Klettarfrú.
