FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Ranunculus acris, Meadow Buttercup, Brennisóley

Ranunculus acris; The meadow buttercup is a herbaceous perennial buttercup that grows up to about 40cm.
  - The stems grow vertical. The leaves are deeply divided palmatifid at the base, metamorphosing upwards to linear bracts under the flowers. Both petioles and leaf-blades are hairy.
  - The flowers are 5-parted with bright yellow petals. Like other buttercups, above the petals are numerous stamens and pistils.
  - It is very common on Iceland only missing in the harshest deserts of the interior. It grows on relative dry soils and grasslands.
  - It is a member of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Brennisóley.
