FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Juncus biglumis, Two-flowered Rush, Flagasef

Juncus biglumis; The Two-flowered rush is very similar to the three-flowered rush. Basic differences are: bract slightly longer than flowers in the two-flowered, shorter in the three-flowered. Perianth leaves of the flowers are yellowish to pink in the three-flowered (note thate the perianth is surrounded by dark brown scale leaves). In the two-leaved rush the perianth is dark-brown. A third difference is the shape of the fruits: in the two-flowered they are slightly indented at the top, not so in the three-flowered. The two-flowered rush grows all over Iceland on moist soils. The Icelandic name of this species is Flagasef.
It is a member of the rush family (Juncaceae).
