Heracleum persicum; The Persian hogweed is very similar to the Giant Hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum). It differs in:
- It is a perennial species where H. mantegazzianum is a bi-annual.
- It has flower umbels spaced well below the large top umbels. These are from lower placed lateral stems.
- Iit lacks the red spots on the stems.
- It grows around human settlements on dry disturbed soils. Like H. mantegazzanium it is a settled introduced exotic on Iceland.
- It is a member of the Carrot family ( Apiaceae formerly known as Umbelliferae). The Icelandic name of this species is Tröllakló.
