FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Geum rivale, Water Avens, Fjalldalafífill

Geum rivale; the water avens grows on Iceland in grasslands, heathers and on moist hill sides. It flowers during the Icelandic summer. Characteristic are the drooping flowering stems. Note also that the petals are standing straight up (not spreading!) on the flower base (that is pointing down because of the drooping inflorescence stems). It is a relatively rather tall herb growing up to 40 cm. It is a member of the rose family (Rosaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Fjalldalafífill.
