Gentianella aurea; The Northern Gentian is can be found in most regions of Iceland except for the barren highlands. It can be recognized by the crowded short stalked flowers in the top and in the axil's of the stem leaves. Also quite conspicuous are the needle-shaped tips of the petal-lobes It grows in a wide spectrum of sunny habitats. Members of this species can hold both 4- and/or 5- petal-lobes
It is a member of the gentian family (Gentianaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Gullvöndur.
