Erophila verna; Common Whitlowgrass is a lovely little spring plant growing in the northern and eastern districts of Iceland. It is also common throughout north-western Europe. It differs from other whitlowgrasses in the branching flower stems and the lobed petals. The Icelandic name "vorperla" means "springpearl". The Dutch word "vroegeling", means "the early one". Both reflect a lovingly respectfull attitude towards this little plant.
It is a member of the cabbage (= mustard) family) (Brassicaceae formerly known as Cruciferae). The Icelandic name of this species is Vorperla.
