FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Epilobium ciliatum, American Willowherb, Vætudúnurt

Epilobium ciliatum; American Willowherb is an alien that has settled around Reykjavik (I saw this species both in Reykjavik and near Mosfellsbær) and other urban areas of the south-western regions of Iceland. This willowherb can be recognized by the leaf shape: strongly dented margins and a tapered top. With a magnifying glass one can spot many glandular hairs on the plant. In the past the species has been named Epilobium watsonii.
It is a member of the Willowherb family (Onagraceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Vætudúnurt.
