Centaurea triumfetti; Just like the Perennial Cornflower (C. montana) the Squarrose Knapweed is an introduced species as an ornamental plant in private gardens which can endure Icelandic conditions. I found this plant as a border-plant behind the youth hostel of Bakkagerði; Eastern Iceland. This species differs from the perennial cornflower by its red/pink flowers where the perenial cornflower has blue flowers. It is closely related to the common annual European cornflower.
It is a member of the Asteraceae family (= Compositae ), the daisy family. The Icelandic name of this species is Flauelskornblóm.
