Carex maritima; The Curved sedge is one of the smaller sedges on Iceland (about 10 cm tall but it depands on the local conditions). It grows in many different regions of Iceland both in the barren high lands as well as the more lusher regions of the lowlands. The name "maritima" is therefore misleading. Characteristacally this sedge species has very compact inflorescences. I photographed this species both along the lowlands near Höfn as well as near the interior region near Askja!
It is a member of the sedge family (Cyperaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Bjúgstör.
