FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Campanula rotundifolia, Harebell, Bláklukka

Campanula rotundifolia; The Harebell is the only common bell species on Iceland. It is common in the east and Skaftafell region in the south. It grows in all sorts of soils but has a preference for rather dry open habitats. The common harebells flowers in July and August.
Very rare is the Arctic Harebell (Campanula uniflora) which only grows on some mountains around Akureyri and some other mountains in the north. It can be distinguished from the common harebells by its smaller flowers and the larger hairy calyx.
They are members of the Bellflower family (Campanulaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Bláklukka.
