Arabis alpina; the alpine rock-cress typically grows in damp conditions in rocky regions. It can therefor be found in almost all regions of Iceland except for the meadow countries of the south and Borgarness area, and also the southern coastal sand regions under the large glaciers. The purple-blackish flower-stalks and fruit-pods are quite characteristic as well as the dentated leaves.
It is a member of the cabbage (= mustard) family) (Brassicaceae formerly known as Cruciferae). The Icelandic name of this species is Skriðnablóm.
