FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Alchemilla wichurae, Rock Lady's-mantle, Silfurmaríustakkur

Alchemilla wichurae; the Rock Lady's-mantle is a more rare species. Plants of this species have a central flower within a cluster of flowers which is usually red coloured. Also stems and leaf pedicels are generally red coloured. This is a striking difference to other Lady's-mantles. It favours warmer conditions. I saw it at Skaftafell for the first time - Skaftafell is regarded as one of the warmer regions of Iceland. It also grows elsewhere on Iceland more oten on thermal soils than other Lady´s/mantles.

It is a member of the Rose family (Rosaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Silfurmaríustakkur.
